[Abstract]

Prostate cancer(PCa) is the most common cancer in men in Europe and North America. Recently, the incidence of PCa is increasingly enhanced in China. Nowadays, the pathological diagnosis of biopsy samples is the ?Golden Standard? of the diagnosis of PCa,but establishing the diagnosis of PCa has become a greater challenge in recent times because of the limited amount of cancer or atypical glands in needle biopsy samples. A positive marker for PCa would therefore be of great value in establishing a definitive malignant diagnosis.Recent years, some investigators found that P504s was selectively overexpressed in PCa and showed minimal or undetectable expression in benign prostate tissue. P504s encodes a protein? a -Methylacyl-CoA-Racemase(AMACR) which plays a key role in the ? -oxidation of branched chain fatty acids and the bile acid intermediates. In our study, we observed the expression of AMACR in PCa and the mimics of PCa; and compared the basal cell-specific markers, p63 and 34 0 E12;and evaluated the value of AMACR/p63 immunostains in diagnosis of small prostate cancer foci on needle biopsy; and discussed the role of AMACR in prostate carcinogenesis.In the current study, we collected 35 cases of PCa, 23 cases of high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia(HGPIN), 7 cases of atypical adenomatous hyperplasia(AAH), 9 cases of basal cell hyperplasia and 30 cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).
