SIFFEThe SIFE chapter of Miami Dade College Kendall campus and Sam?s Club once again joined?efforts to help a small business while serving the environment at the same time. Sam?s club has developed the ?Step Up for Small Business Project? with the purpose of giving SIFE members the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and help the community.

?SIFE, which stands for Students in Free Enterprise, is an international non-profit organization that works to motivate university students to make a difference in their communities through the application of business concepts and development of leadership skills. Through this project, the MDC-Kendall campus SIFE students are helping a local business raise?quality of life and standard of living through environmentally sustainable practices.

Newproducts??The chosen one was 5 Star Nails, a beauty salon located in the heart of Kendall. SIFE members Maria Eugenia Nardi, Javier Caveda, and Libna Canals are working together with the salon owner, Thad Loether, to develop viable initiatives. Among the implemented changes, the salon now features recycling system of cardboard, plastics and glass. It has reduced the amount of fumes through the introduction of less toxic and water-based nail polish brands. Paper towels have been replaced by cloth towels, and the whole lighting system has been replaced by LED-technology, which is energy efficient.

?The outcomes are very rewarding. Not only is the business becoming more eco-friendly, it is also increasing sales and thus revenue. Customers and owners are very satisfied.

SIFE MDC-Kendall thanks Sam?s club for the opportunity of giving back to our community through the project, and wants to invite the public to the 5 Star Nails Salon (12530 SW120 St., Miami, FL) to enjoy the changes.
